Lázár was commenting on recent criticism by U.S. Ambassador for Hungary Colleen Bell, when she said that American companies should not compete against the relatives of politicians, referring to recently approved legislation on public procurement tenders, which allows the relatives of politicians to apply for tenders if they live in separate households. Lázár said that the ambassador’s “words are an unfair criticism”, as the new public procurement law offers equitable conditions to everyone, without favoring anyone, origo.hu reported.
Lázár reportedly added that nobody is selected to be an ambassador in Hungary based on their support for a party, according to origo.hu.
Lázár said earlier that “Hungary is not part of the United States”, in response to previous criticism by Bell.
