On energy and concomitant security, Szijjártó and Javorčík identified development of north-south infrastructure in Central Europe was identified as the most important goal of V4 cooperation both in the fields of energy and transport. And a gas pipeline network to connect the Baltic sea with the Adriatic in the near future was agreed to be “critical.”
In speaking to media, the officials touted last month’s inauguration of a 115-kilometer natural gas interconnector running through Hungary and Slovakia as an early step in increasing regional energy security issues.
The sides also saw motorway connections between the capitals of Central European countries as an important aim and mentioned plans by the governments of Slovakia and Hungary to connect motorway borders. Both countries reiterated plans to focus on industrial development and a shared position that competitiveness in industry must remain an important factor when shaping European Union climate policy.
