Govt allocates HUF 450 mln to company facilitating tobacco sales monopoly

The government has allocated HUF 450 mln for the establishment and operation of a company that will facilitate the monopolisation by the state of Hungary's retail tobacco business, a resolution published in the latest issue of official gazette Magyar Közlöny shows.
The National Tobacco Sales Nonprofit will publish tenders for tobacco sales concessions, evaluate applications and award the concessions. Only concession-holding retailers - an expected 7,000 - will be allowed to sell tobacco from July of next year.
