Magyar Telekom on Wednesday said its board voted to separate the company’s CEO and chairman positions, in line with the practices of other units of majority owner Deutsche Telekom. The board elected Deutsche Telekom Senior Vice President of Technology for Europe Kerstin Günther chairperson, the telco said. The change does not affect the tasks as CEO or the board membership of former Christopher Mattheisen, who was earlier chairman, it added. “The separation of executive management from the chairperson of the board of directors in person, and election of a non-executive board member as chairperson will enhance further the transparency in the company’s corporate governance,” according to the statement. Günther is no stranger to Magyar Telekom: she was in charge of the company’s wholesale activities in 1997-2001. At present, she is “responsible for the functional management of technology” in 13 European countries within Deutsche Telekom Group. Magyar Telekom’s board members were elected by shareholders at an annual general meeting two weeks earlier. Their mandates run until May 31, 2016.
