Organizers of the demonstrations say they oppose “state corruption, increasing taxes and current foreign policy”, while demanding “freedom, transparency, responsible governance and European ideology”. The Facebook page, called “A közfelháborodás napja” (“A day of public outcry”) lists parallel events scheduled in at least 17 other Hungarian towns, as well as Berlin and Bristol.
Another group, who had organized four previous demonstrations in the last month by Facebook, had planned a demonstration at a square nearby. That group, which was apparently successful in making the government scuttle plans for an internet tax, said today it will merge the demonstrations and all meet at Kossuth tér at 6 p.m.
