The movement, which already has more than 5,000 backers, is being organized by Zoltán Büki, MP of opposition Együtt. Büki, however, emphasized that the blockade is organized by him as an individual and not by his party and expects it to remain as long as there is either an easing of the road toll system or the current Hungarian government resigns.
The blockade will involve the closure of Hungarian highways, the M0 and other important ring roads and the most frequented transport junctions, while detour roads will be left free for bypass traffic. According to Büki, in this way the Hungarian police have no authority to stop the demonstration, which will be made official very soon.
Although the blockade has recently been compared to the taxi blockade which took place 25 years ago, Büki was cited as saying that the current blockade will be different, as they are planning to comply with the law. “Immobilizing the country is not our aim, but there will be traffic jams and slight chaos” Büki was cited by Hungarian online daily Index.
