The Hintalovon Foundation published its report about childrenʼs rights in Hungary in 2017, containing a compilation of facts and figures. Among the findings, the report found that every third child is separated from their family because of their financial situation, and every year 25-30 children aged 10-14 commit suicide in Hungary, according to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal.
More than 20% of children attending high school, and more than 50% of those in vocational schools, never read a book, the report says.
Media reports about sexually abused children grew fourfold last year, Hintalovon notes.
In addition, it found, 232 children crossed the Hungarian border alone asking for asylum in 2017, as well as a total of 1,600 together with their families.
In a few decades, children growing up now will shape the country, the report stresses. This is why it is important to be aware of and improve childrenʼs rights, as the future society of Hungary is greatly influenced by what children experience now, the report concludes.
