According to prosecutors, the defendant agreed in 2022 to employ a man living in poverty in Nagykőrös, central Hungary, as a driver in exchange for room, board and a small salary.

In early 2023, the defendant allegedly assaulted and threatened the victim, forcing him to perform agricultural and construction work while providing minimal food and occasional payments of HUF 1,000.

Prosecutors said the defendant later took the victim abroad, confiscated his passport and forced him to work while keeping him in inhumane conditions.

Authorities in that country, which was not identified in the statement, uncovered the alleged abuse and initiated proceedings over false imprisonment and forced labor. They also helped the victim return to Hungary.

The defendant returned to Nagykőrös a month later, allegedly assaulted the victim again and forced him to work without pay.

Police launched an investigation after the victim was reported missing, leading to the defendant’s detention.
