District Mayor László Böröcz said the municipality wants to preserve the area as a vibrant and attractive residential district, while recognizing that tourism and short-term rentals are important to many residents and local businesses.
Residents over the age of 18 will be able to vote on two questions.
The first will ask whether Airbnb rentals should be completely banned in the district. The second will ask whether, if short-term rentals remain permitted, the municipal council should set specific criteria for offering such accommodation.
The municipal council said there are currently more than 400 licensed private accommodation providers in District I.
The legal moratorium on registering new short-term accommodation facilities is due to expire at the end of the year.
