A new K&H survey shows that 53% of middle‑aged Hungarians fear they will face financial hardship as retirees, down from last year’s 58% but still above the 40–44% range measured between 2018 and 2020.
Several related concerns have also declined. Some 71% of respondents worry they will not have enough money for hobbies (down from 77%), 70% fear their savings will lose value (down from 75%), and 72% are concerned about future crises affecting their finances (down from 78%).
The gap between respondents with and without retirement savings remains significant, as only 28% of savers expect difficulties compared with 59% of non‑savers. This year, 29% plan to accumulate enough savings to retire before the official age, the highest level recorded, and 32% believe they will be able to live on their state pension after a full working life.
Family support remains an important safety net, with 43% expecting help from their children, rising to 55% in households where children are already present.
