Járosi said the funding was needed because no operating support for the three regional airports had been included in the 2026 budget prepared by the previous Orbán government.
Under the government decision, the additional resources will go to the companies operating the three airports, as well as to Nemzeti Regionális Üzemeltető Holding Kft., which owns the Debrecen and Sármellék airports.
According to Járosi, the funding is necessary to prevent the companies from becoming insolvent and the airports from suspending operations, which he said could put around 250 jobs at risk.
He added that all three airports could play an important role in tourism and regional development, but their current passenger traffic remains too low to generate enough revenue to cover operating costs.
The government has also instructed the minister for transport and investment to review the companies operating the three regional airports and submit proposals for a comprehensive and sustainable model for their future operation.
Járosi highlighted the decision in particular in connection with Pécs-Pogány Airport, saying the facility would now receive the resources needed to continue operating this year.
