According to raw data, retail sales were 4% higher than a year earlier.
Food retail sales increased 1.8% year-on-year in June. Sales at non-specialized food and beverage stores, which accounted for 76% of food retailing, rose 3.7%, while turnover at specialized food, beverage and tobacco shops fell 3.8%.
Non-food retail sales increased 5.1%. The strongest growth was recorded at pharmaceutical, medical goods and cosmetics stores, where volumes rose 7.8%.
Sales increased 5.1% at furniture and electrical goods stores, 4.7% at books, computer equipment and other specialized stores, and 3.9% at non-specialized stores selling manufactured goods.
Turnover at textile, clothing and footwear stores edged up 0.2%, while sales at second-hand goods shops declined 0.6%.
Mail-order and internet retailing, which accounted for 8.9% of total retail sales, expanded 5.2% year-on-year.
Sales volumes at automotive fuel stations fell 0.2%.
Raw sales volumes at stores selling motor vehicles, parts and accessories, which are not included in the retail trade data, increased 14%.
Retail sales reached HUF 1.78 trillion at current prices in June. Food stores accounted for 48% of national retail turnover, non-food retailing for 37% and automotive fuel stations for 15%.
In the first half of 2026, calendar-adjusted retail sales increased 4.5% compared with the same period a year earlier.
Food retail sales rose 2.5% in January-June, while non-food retailing increased 5.6%. Automotive fuel sales were 8.3% higher than in the first half of 2025.
