The typical guests are between 45 and 60 years old, but couples aged 25-35 are also accounting for an increasing share of bookings. All-inclusive service, wellness facilities and special hotel programs are among the features that make holidays for two more memorable, the company said.
Popular destinations include Turkey, Greece and Egypt, while the Maldives, Zanzibar and Mexico are also increasingly sought after, especially among honeymooners.
Adults-only hotels offer a chance to forget the rush of everyday life, switch off and focus fully on each other. The format is built around a quieter, more private holiday experience, with dinners in stylish seaside restaurants, sunsets and uninterrupted time together.
From Niche to Trend
Adults-only hotels originally appeared in the Caribbean in the 1970s, primarily for honeymooners. The concept has since spread across Europe, with resorts from Turkey to Greece, Spain and Egypt offering environments exclusively for adult guests. Depending on the hotel, the minimum age is 16 or 18.
Instead of children’s pools, there are jacuzzis; instead of mini clubs, spas; and instead of spacious family rooms, elegant suites. Adults-only hotels are clearly tailored to an adult lifestyle. Selected gastronomy, quality drink selections, evening DJ events and daily programs built around wellness complete the experience.
“Adults-only hotels do not simply mean a holiday without children. This is a conscious decision about how and with whom we want to spend our time. Honeymooners, couples celebrating anniversaries, but also women traveling alone are increasingly looking for these locations, where a safe, harmonious environment allows for real recharging,” said Jozef Zakar, country manager of Invia in Hungary and Slovakia.
Who Chooses Adults-only Hotels?
The typical adults-only guest is between 45 and 60 years old and is looking for a higher-quality, peaceful holiday. The second-strongest group consists of younger travelers aged 25-35: couples looking for an inspiring environment, design and enough personal space.
Many guests are parents with families who want to devote a few days only to each other.
In terms of destinations, there is no significant difference compared with family holidays. The most sought-after destinations are Turkey, Greece and Egypt. More exotic choices, including the Maldives, Zanzibar and Mexico, are gaining popularity, particularly among honeymooners.
Travel Packages as a Basis for Holidays for Two
Travel packages offer one of the easiest ways to book adults-only hotels, with flights, accommodation, transfers and all-inclusive service available in one place at a transparent price. This is especially important for travelers who want to truly switch off and avoid worrying about organizational details or unexpected extra costs.
In the current unpredictable aviation environment, also influenced by kerosene prices, this advantage is becoming even more valuable. Travel package prices are fixed in advance, meaning possible increases in airfares do not affect passengers, or only do so to a limited extent. By contrast, prices for individually booked tickets can change even in the short term, and unexpected last-minute costs can be a particularly unpleasant surprise when planning a romantic trip.
“The capacities of the best adults-only hotels fill up quickly, especially in the winter and spring periods. With a travel package, not only is the organizational burden reduced, but in the event of a disruption, responsibility is also clear and there is someone to turn to, which is particularly valuable for a romantic trip,” said Béla Szokodi, commercial and product manager at Invia.
