The working-day adjusted index was equal to the unadjusted figure. Compared with March, industrial output fell 1.1% based on seasonally and working-day adjusted data.

KSH said production decreased in the majority of manufacturing subsections. The April figure was unchanged from the first estimate.

Industrial export volume was 3.2% higher than a year earlier. Export sales of the manufacture of transport equipment, which accounted for 33% of export sales in manufacturing, rose 10.3%. Export sales of the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, which had an 18% weight, increased 24%.

Domestic sales of industry fell 4.3%, while domestic sales of manufacturing declined 5.4% compared with the same month of the previous year.

Manufacturing output, which accounted for 96% of industrial output, grew 0.9%. Output in mining and quarrying, which has only a small weight, rose 72%, while output in the energy industry increased 0.2%.

Transport Equipment Output Rises

Output of the manufacture of transport equipment, the largest manufacturing subsection with a 27% share, rose 8% year-on-year in April. Within the subsection, motor vehicle manufacturing increased 18.8%, while the manufacture of parts and accessories for motor vehicles declined 0.5%.

The manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, which accounted for 13% of manufacturing output, rose 23%, the strongest increase among the subsections. Within the two largest groups, the manufacture of computers and peripheral equipment jumped 85%, while the manufacture of electronic components and boards fell 16.3%.

The manufacture of electrical equipment, which had an 8.3% weight in manufacturing, decreased 1.5% year-on-year. Food Industry Output Declines

The manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products, which accounted for 12% of manufacturing, was 1.6% lower than in April 2025, as export sales rose but domestic sales declined.

Within the subsection, processing and preserving meat and the production of meat products, the largest group with a 22% weight, dropped 6.1% year-on-year. Production also declined in six other groups, by between 0.2% and 32%. The smallest decline was recorded in the manufacture of prepared animal feeds, while the steepest fall was seen in the processing and preserving of fish, crustaceans and mollusks, a group with a very small weight.

Output increased in the remaining four groups, by between 3% and 30%. The highest growth was recorded in the manufacture of vegetable and animal oils and fats, while the smallest increase was seen in the manufacture of bakery and farinaceous products.

Mixed Picture Across Subsectors

Among medium-weight subsections, output in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non-metallic mineral products fell 4%, while the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, rose 1.1%.

Growth slowed markedly in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c., which accounted for 5.4% of manufacturing. Output in the subsection rose only 0.2% in April, with declines recorded in the majority of classes.

The manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, which had a 3.9% share in manufacturing, recorded the steepest fall among subsections, with output down 30% year-on-year. Sales declined in both domestic and export markets.

Industrial output rose in four regions and fell in four others. The strongest growth was recorded in Budapest, where output increased 26%, while the largest decline was registered in Pest region, at 23%.

Orders Stock up 32%

The volume of total new orders in the observed manufacturing divisions was 8.4% higher than in April 2025. New domestic orders fell 1%, while new export orders rose 10%.

The total stock of orders at the end of April was 32% above the level recorded a year earlier.

In January-April, industrial production increased 1% compared with the same period of the previous year. Export sales, which represented 64% of total sales, rose 1.9%, while domestic sales, accounting for 36%, fell 2.9%.

Among the 13 manufacturing subsections, output declined in six, with the largest decrease, 27%, recorded in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products. Output of the manufacture of transport equipment, the largest subsection, increased 1.5%. In the remaining subsections, production volumes rose by between 0.8% and 22%, with the highest growth seen in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products.
