The traveler boarded Wizz Air’s first flight from Budapest to Tallinn.
Wizz Air launched its first Budapest route in late June 2004, connecting the then-called Ferihegy Airport with Athens. Since then, the Hungarian-founded airline has continuously expanded both its network and its fleet. Just over a month ago, it took delivery of its 250th aircraft, further strengthening Wizz Air’s presence in Hungary as well as in Central and Eastern Europe.
Wizz Air is also expanding its Budapest base: from next May, 18 Airbus A321neo aircraft will be stationed at Budapest Airport, connecting the Hungarian capital to nearly 80 destinations, from Saudi Arabia to Iceland and from the Canary Islands to Estonia. Tickets for the airline’s newest routes—including Ankara, Billund, Skopje, Bergen, Lamezia Terme, and Rimini—are already available on the Wizz Air website and mobile app.
“Wizz Air’s strategy has remained unchanged since its founding: to make air travel accessible to as many people as possible through low fares. Reaching this important milestone shows that we are on the right path, and we are pleased that, in addition to making flying accessible to everyone, we can also contribute to strengthening and developing economic and cultural ties. This is what we have worked toward over the past 21 years, and this is the work we will continue in the future,” said András Radó, head of communications at Wizz Air.
“Budapest Airport is proud to be an integral and important part of Wizz Air’s significant expansion in the Central and Eastern European region. We highly value the past 21 years of cooperation and thank every Wizz Air and Budapest Airport colleague who has contributed to this more than two decades-long business partnership, making today’s celebration possible,” said Máté Ritter, head of airline development at Budapest Airport.
“The eight new routes launched by Wizz Air in 2025, the five new routes announced for next year, and the 18th based aircraft are also the result of an airport commercial policy that supports airlines expanding in the Budapest market. In the future, Budapest Airport will continue to work as a reliable business partner to create opportunities for the growth of international air connectivity and to support the tourism economy of Budapest and Hungary. We thank Wizz Air for the partnership and wish many more successful decades,” he added.
