The central investigative prosecutor’s office (KNYF) said in a statement that three people have been detained.
So far, there are three suspects in the case: the facility’s former director and his partner, who have been in custody, and a secretary who is under police surveillance.
KNYF said it would inform the public about developments in the investigation and warned that “reports in the press citing unknown sources should not be considered certified”.
Meanwhile, the interior ministry said in a statement that the government was giving the work of the prosecutor’s office its full backing to discover whether the managers or employees of the institution committed a previously unsolved crime.
The Minister of Interior, Sándor Pintér, has announced a full investigation into whether the police made mistakes in recent years.
“Anyone who has committed a crime or aided one will be held accountable before the judiciary,” the statement said.
The statement added that the government has boosted security at child protection institutions, with police officers and school guards ensuring the safety of children resident at key facilities.
