Following his meeting with Elbridge A. Colby, U.S. Under Secretary of war for Policy, the Hungarian Minister of Defense told public media that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump would pave the way for broader collaboration in defense and space industries.

Talks at the Pentagon included discussion of Hungary’s potential purchase of HIMARS rocket artillery systems and rockets.

Szalay-Bobrovniczky explained that the purchase could be considered within a 3–5 year procurement window, pending approval by the U.S. Congress.

Speaking on his return flight to Hungary, the minister added that political barriers imposed during the Biden administration – which in some cases blocked delivery of already paid-for defense equipment – had now been lifted during the Washington negotiations.
