Speaking at a conference organised by the Joint Venture Association (JVSZ) on Monday, Nagy said a “double-digit” minimum wage increase was “possible”.

He said he predicts that unions will ask for a 12-13% minimum wage increase, while employers will advocate a 9-10% increase.

The state will help bring the two sides closer, he added.

Nagy noted that the government had reduced the payroll tax from 28% to 13% over the past 15 years, and now employers wanted it brought down to 12%.

That 1 pp reduction would result in HUF 200 billion of lost budget revenue, he added.
