Energy Minister Csaba Lantos said on Friday at the inauguration of an electrical substation that this is a huge step towards energy sovereignty, and facilities like the one in Szikszó are needed to ensure that electricity is safely produced and reaches consumers.
He noted that there are 66,000 low-voltage transformers operating in Hungary. Lantos said that there are currently more than 330,000 power plants in the country, most of them small-scale household ones.
With these, for the first time ever, there were 14 days this year when Hungary was a net exporter of electricity.
The minister noted that in real terms, Hungary’s GDP is more than double the value in 1990, but the country consumes less energy than it did then and uses it much more efficiently.
Szikszó mayor Antal Sváb said the municipal council had signed a contract with the Energy Ministry on a HUF 11.5bn investment for the 132/22 kilovolt, 40+40 megavolt ampere substation.
