The year-over-year increase was driven primarily by higher costs in food, energy and services.
Food prices rose 5.9% on average, or 4.6% when excluding food and beverage serving services. Notable price increases were recorded for chocolate, coffee, seasonal produce such as fruits and vegetables, eggs, confectionery, and juices. Some items, including margarine, flour, sugar, and certain dairy and meat products, saw declining prices, helping to moderate the overall increase.
Household energy prices climbed by 10.9%, with natural and manufactured gas seeing a particularly steep rise. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco also became more expensive, largely due to a jump in tobacco prices.
The cost of services increased 5.3%, with strong upward pressure from personal care, entertainment, home and vehicle maintenance, and rent. Prices for consumer durables also edged higher, especially for jewelry and furniture, while the price of motor fuels declined. Pharmaceutical products rose in price by nearly 5%.
On a monthly basis, food prices were up 0.3%, and 0.4% when excluding serving services.
Fresh fruits, confectionery, chocolate, poultry, coffee, butter, sugar, and non-alcoholic drinks all contributed to the increase, while eggs, rolls, meat preparations, edible oil, bread, milk, and flour became slightly cheaper.
Energy prices rose by 1.2% compared to June, as gas prices continued to climb. Prices for services rose 1% on the month, with notable gains in recreational and entertainment-related categories. Motor fuel prices increased slightly, while pharmaceutical products saw a small decline.
