The working-day adjusted index mirrored the non-adjusted figure, while seasonally and working-day adjusted data showed a 1.3% decline in output compared to April 2025.
The drop marks another setback for Hungary’s industrial sector, which has been struggling with weak external demand and declining investment activity across several key manufacturing areas.
Production volumes decreased in the majority of manufacturing subsections. Among sectors with the highest weight, growth was recorded in the manufacture of transport equipment and the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products. However, these gains were not enough to offset declines in other areas.
Output in the manufacture of electrical equipment declined, as did production in the food, beverage, and tobacco segment—industries that have shown persistent weakness amid cost pressures and slowing consumer demand.
In the first five months of 2025, industrial output was down 4.1% compared to the same period in 2024.
The monthly comparison also painted a bleak picture, with industrial production falling 1.3% in May from April on a seasonally and working-day adjusted basis.
More detailed data by manufacturing subsections and regions will be published by the statistical office on July 12.
