Hungary was ahead of Greece and Spain, where solar power generated 22% and 21%, respectively, of electricity, the ministry said in its post.
On sunny days, Hungary’s electricity generation is entirely carbon-free, taking into account the output of the Paks nuclear power plant, it added.
Solar power capacity in Hungary climbed over 7,550 MW at the start of 2025. Four-fifths of that capacity has been installed since 2020.
By 2030, capacity is set to reach 12,000 MW. More than 300,000 homes have solar panels in the country, the ministry said.
