The year-on-year decrease was driven largely by a steep 17% drop in civil engineering works, while building construction experienced a milder decline of 2%.

Within the construction divisions, building production volume fell 17.0%, and civil engineering declined sharply by 39.6% year-on-year. However, specialized construction activities, the sector’s largest component, grew by 20.9% from a low base in 2023.

New contract volumes saw a slight 2.7% increase in September compared to last year. Contracts for building construction fell by 17.8%, while contracts for civil engineering surged by 24.9%. End-of-September contract stock was up 36% year-on-year, with building construction contracts increasing by 1.5% and civil engineering contracts climbing by 71%.

For the first nine months of 2024, construction output rose a modest 0.9% year-on-year.

In the third quarter of 2024, construction producer prices rose 7.0% in civil engineering, 5.7% in specialized construction activities, and 3.8% in building construction. Compared to the previous quarter, construction prices increased by 0.9%.
