The announcement came from Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on Monday.
The government, Microsoft, the Hungarian EU Development Board and representatives from Hungary’s five parliamentary parties signed an agreement on the program, known by its Hungarian acronym TITAN, on Monday. Other participants in the program include Cisco, HP, Intel, Magyar Telekom, rEVOLUTION Software, Xapt, FreeSoft, Inforum and the Hungarian Association of IT Companies (IVSZ).
The program, which runs from 2009 until 2012, aims to make high-level computer use an everyday part of business at Hungarian SMEs. It will also introduce IT instruction in Hungary’s primary schools and take steps to stem the short supply of IT professionals. Alone in its first year, the program is expected to involve 10,000 IT professionals, 25,000 managers and hundreds of thousands of company staff.
A big part of the money for the program is expected to come from EU development funding. (MTI – Econews)
