Hungarian Gen Z Auto-buyers Prioritize Affordability

Although they are aware of climate change, Generation Z members in Hungary are less inclined to buy EVs or purchase an auto online, according to leading online business daily Világgazdaság.

A recent survey also showed that they don't care what car brand they drive, as price is the most critical factor for them. According to Judit Horváth, marketing manager for the Porsche Hungaria Cupra and Seat brands, it is clear to all car manufacturers that Gen Z represents the market's future.

The research, which involved 350 people, was primarily interested in the car-buying habits of young people. It's no surprise young people in Budapest are more likely to opt for public transport, while those in the countryside prefer to use a car to get from A to B. The same is true for driving licenses: the Gen Z-ers in the capital get their driving license as soon as possible, but unlike their rural counterparts, they don't get behind the wheel immediately.

Some 60% of the young people interviewed have an auto, around three-quarters of whom own a second-hand car at least 15 years old.

Researchers had previously thought that Gen Z cared primarily about brands, but results show that they care more about the price than the type of car they drive or want to drive.

Due to the higher prices, they are less keen on EVs and even less keen on buying online: 71% of them think it is important to test drive a car before buying it.
