„Putting an end to Jackson-Vanik is in the national interests of both Russia and the United States,” Lantos, chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, told reporters in Moscow today. „I will spare no effort to bring this about and I have every expectation that I will be successful.”
He didn’t give a timeframe for annulling the amendment. President George W. Bush’s administration began consulting Congress more than six years ago on lifting the 1974 trade restrictions, known as the Jackson-Vanik amendment, according to a statement on the White House Web site. (Bloomberg)
