"If the world is being divided into blocs again then it will be impossible to complete those duties which would help us to preserve the planet for our successors," Szijjártó told the forum.
"Instead of dividing the world into blocs again, let's enter the era of connectivity," he added.
He urged world leaders to give global cooperation "based on mutual respect" a chance, arguing that it would be "good for all countries and beneficial for all people".
Szijjártó also said nuclear energy was an "obvious answer" for supplying electricity to a growing population without putting a burden on the environment. Nuclear energy is cheap, safe, environmentally friendly and sustainable, he added.
He noted that the debate on nuclear energy had been "pretty emotional" and said he hoped that the UN would continue to serve as a platform for "fact-based dialogue".
Szijjártó reiterated Hungary's commitment to fulfilling sustainable development goals.
