"I don't know if we would have to sign such an agreement. At present, we recognize the Hungarian immunity certificates, and Hungary recognizes ours. The foreign ministry is in the process of determining whether an agreement on the matter definitely must be signed or not," Citu said.
Hungary's government has mandated Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó to reach bilateral agreements with other countries on recognition of COVID immunity certificates. So far, such agreements have been reached with Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Bahrain.
Gergely Gulyés, the head of the Prime Minister's Office, earlier acknowledged an initiative by the European Union to introduce an EU-wide immunity certificate but said it appeared the process "could take weeks or even months".
