The most important message conveyed by the 15-member delegation to Almunia was that “Hungary continues to be committed to and will do all for the success of the country’s convergence program”, the statement said. The delegation also met Energy commissioner Andris Piebalgs, Tax and Customs Commissioner László Kovács and European Commission Vice-President, responsible for Administrative Affairs, Audit and Anti-Fraud Transparency. European Parliament president Hans-Gert Pöttering also received the delegation. Pielbalgs ensured the delegation that both the energy commissioner and the EU consider the South Stream gas-pipeline project to be an important and useful means of diversifying the energy supply, the statement said. Hungary and Russia signed an agreement on Hungary’s participation in the planned South Stream pipeline on February 28. Hungary is also part of the EU’s alternative Nabucco pipeline project.
