Szijjártó mentioned Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Turkey as some of the countries that could be invited. According to the foreign minister, it would be beneficial if these countries approved the establishment of EU “stations”, designed to filter out immigrants who are not entitled to asylum status. Szijjártó believes such a measure would ease migration pressure on Hungary, MTI said.
According to figures cited by Szijjártó, Hungary has so far seen the arrival of 72,893 illegal immigrants, with 72,307 coming through Serbia. “It is in Hungary’s best interest that Europe and the European Union find mutually beneficial answers for illegal immigration sooner, than later,” Szijjártó was quoted as saying.
