Szijjártó said the meeting was aimed at increasing cooperation in every area not effected by European Union sanctions and to encourage the opportunity to rebuild pragmatic cooperation between the EU and Russia.
On Tuesday it was decided to extend EU sanctions against Russia, but the Hungarian government is of the opinion that the decision was reached in an undemocratic way and that the issue should have been discussed at the highest level by member states, according to Szijjártó.
Szijjártó said the topics of energy policy, Hungarian companies investing in Russia and joint Hungarian-Russian cooperation on foreign markets were discussed at the committeeʼs meeting.
Veronika Skvortsova said difficult situations cannot prevent the advancement of Hungarian-Russian cooperation and noted the importance of agricultural and pharmaceutical investments.
Following the meeting Szijjártó signed a cooperation agreement with Nikolay Kosov the chairman of the International Investment Bank and also signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a healthcare center in Novosibirsk.
