The figure was the lowest level since the indicator was introduced in 1993 and much lower than 7.5% registered a year ago. In the 27-nation EU, unemployment also remained stable at 6.7% in April. It was 7.2% in April 2007.
Among EU member states, the Netherlands recorded the lowest unemployment, which was 2.8%. Jobless rate in Germany, the largest economy in the euro zone, remained at 7.4%, while France’s unemployment was also unchanged at 7.8%.
The Eurostat estimated that there were 16.047 million people unemployed in the EU in April, among which 11.072 million were in the euro zone. As a comparison, jobless rate in the United States was 5.0% in April, and the Japanese rate was 3.8%. (people.com.cn)
