The list, issued in the latest issue of the official gazette Magyar Közlöny, includes the United States, Bahrein, the United Arab Emirates, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, China, South Korea, Russia, Singapore, Turkey and Ukraine.
Under a government decree issued days earlier, Hungarian business travelers returning home from trips outside of Europe now face the same pandemic restrictions as tourists. The decree limits "unrestricted entry" to Hungarian nationals returning from business trips to countries in the European Union, the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, candidates for EU accession, third countries with agreements on free passage for nationals of the EEA, and countries designated by the foreign minister.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Friday that travel outside of Europe must be "radically restricted". He said he had learnt that a "tangible number" of Hungarians were asking for inoculations required for "exotic travel", probably wanting to take advantage of low prices to visit places such as Africa. He added that he knew of "not just one or two" instances of Hungarians traveling under the pretense of "conducting business" to circumvent restrictions on recreational travel.
