State news agency MTI reports that Gulyás told the press ahead of the plenary session that the Fidesz and KDNP groups would boycott the entire session, during which parliament voted on the 17th amendment to the Fundamental Law.

Later, after the amendment was passed, Gulyás described the session as a “black day” for post-1990 Hungarian democracy.

He said the Tisza majority was preparing to adopt a Fundamental Law amendment, each element of which, such as removing the president, “beheading” the Constitutional Court, creating an unchecked special prosecutor’s office, and restricting voting rights, represented a severe overreach.
