The recount had been ordered by the Kúria, Hungary's supreme court, after Karácsony won by just 41 votes.
That margin rose to 293 votes after the recount.
Dávid Vitézy, the runner-up in the contest, congratulated Karácsony on the election result and wished him well on the job in a post on Facebook.
