Retail sales in Hungary edged up a calendar year-adjusted 0.4% in August from the same month a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Friday.
The year-on-year rise followed a 1.3% fall in July.
Retail sales totaled HUF 710bn in August.
Food sales climbed 0.4% and non-food sales were up 2.5%. Car and car parts sales, which are not included in the headline figure, in line with EU methodology, fell 5.5%. Retail sales of fuel were down 2.4%.
In a calendar year- and seasonally-adjusted month-on-month comparison, retail sales were also up 0.4%, after falling in July and June. Food sales rose 0.6% and non-food retail sales increased 0.9%.
In January-August, retail sales were down 0.2% from the same period a year earlier. Retail sales totaled HUF 4,988bn during the period. Food sales made up 45% of the total, non-food sales 36% and fuel sales 19%.
