Consumer prices climbed 6.9% year-on-year in December, slower than the 7.3% rise in November. %. Prices for food & non-alcoholic beverages declined for the first time in 2 and half years (-0.3% vs 1.5% in November).
Additional downward pressure came from clothing & footwear (6.1% vs 7.4%), recreation & culture (6% vs 6.9%) and miscellaneous goods & services (4.9% vs 6%).
Meanwhile, inflation edged higher for health (6.6% vs 6.2%) and communication (3.6% vs 3.2%), while it was steady for education (at 6.4%). Also, transport costs continued to drop, albeit at a slower pace (-0.2% vs -2.3%).
On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) decreased by 0.4% in December, following a 0.1% rise in the previous two months. For the full year of 2023, the average i nflation rate stood at 10.7%.
