Elemér Redly, whose parish is in Győr (NW Hungary), launched the fund that aims to reduce Hungary’s state debt with a contribution of HUF 1 million.

Contributions to the fund by companies and private individuals are welcome, Szijjárto said. The government has asked the National Economy Minister to propose amendments that make contributions to the fund tax deductible in part, he added.

The government does not stand alone in the battle against state debt, he said.

Hungary’s state debt stands at 81.2% of GDP at present, according to the “state debt pressure gauge” on the National Economy Ministry’s website.
