Tax levies are underway against some 120,000 companies in Hungary, and the companies concerned have combined tax liabilities of HUF 534 billion, according to the latest summary of the website feketelista.hu, based on data from the National Tax and Customs Authority (NAV).
Some 5,000 cases are closed each week but around the same number of companies are added every other week, so the number of tax levies remains unchanged.
The website’s summary shows the companies have total tax arrears of more than HUF 2,125 billion. Almost three-quarters of the companies against which such procedures have been initiated are no longer operating so chances of recovering unpaid taxes are thin.
Feketelista.hu said the recovery rate fell to 23% from 28-30% in the same period last year in spite of newly introduced measures.
