About 65% of economically active Hungarians between the ages of 15 and 64 submitted a personal income tax return for 2010, but just 51% paid any tax, daily Magyar Nemzet said on Thursday, citing data from the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV).

Of the 6.9m economically active Hungarians, 4.5m submitted personal income tax returns and 3.5m paid tax, the paper said.

The data show about 1.26m Hungarians earned the minimum wage last year, but NAV noted that just 434,000 had steady pay, while the rest were seasonal laborers or had other sources of income.
