The farm gate price of wheat in Hungary is likely to fall to HUF 40,000-60,000 per ton this year from more than HUF 80,000 in 2010, when the harvest was extraordinarily bad, Zoltán Lakatos, who heads the grain processors’ section of the National Grain Association, said on Thursday.
Lakatos said a projection for a 4.1 million-ton wheat harvest this year was “optimistic”.
Hungarian farmers harvested about 3.8 million tons of wheat in 2010, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said earlier.
