New gov’t to be formed on June 9, earlier than planned

Ongoing coalition talks have progressed at a faster rate than expected, so the new government can be formed earlier than planned, on June 9, government spokesman András Batiz said on Tuesday.

The new government program and the bill about ministries will be submitted to parliament next week and Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány will most probably name government members at the end of next week, Batiz said. Committees will hear the minister candidates between June 6 and 8, so the government can be formed on June 9, he said.
Press reports published on Tuesday said the junior coalition partner SzDSz will have to decide on which three of four possible ministerial posts its representatives will fill. The reports, citing unnamed sources, said the economy minister will retain his post while the defense minister and the minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s office will be replaced.
