Elcoteq expanded its staff because of a €54 million investment being carried out between 2004 and 2008 and because of increasing demand for its products, Krippl said. He added that the company has had difficulty finding highly qualified staff, especially technical personnel. For this reason it started offering internet challenges to engineering students last year. The best performers on the tasks will be offered internships and could also be hired, he said.
Elcoteq has four factories in three cities in Hungary. The Finnish company employs 25,000 people in 16 countries around the world. Elcoteq’s Hungarian unit has produced electronic products and communications equipment at its base in Pécs, southwest Hungary since 1998. In 2005, Elcoteq transformed into a Societas Europaea and moved its European headquarters to Budapest.
