Samsonite Hungaria, the Hungarian unit of US-based suitcase maker Samsonite, has completed a HUF 765m expansion of its plant in Szekszard (S Hungary), the daily Nepszabadsag wrote on Friday.
Nepszabadsag noted that Samsonite Hungaria had received HUF 306m in funding for the investment through the New Szechenyi Plan.
The investment is part of a HUF 1.5bn expansion of its base in Szekszard announced last autumn to meet growing global demand for Samsonite products. Samsonite Hungaria told MTI in September that the investment would include construction of a 1,800-square-meter production hall and 4,000-square-meter warehouse as well as modernization of nearly 8,000 square meters of existing production and office space.
Samsonite Hungaria also said last autumn that it expected to manufacture 572,000 suitcases annually in 2011 and 2012, up from 420,000 in 2010.
