German-owned electronic sensor maker Pepperl+Fuchs on Tuesday laid the cornerstone of a HUF 1.3bn expansion at its base in Veszprém (NW Hungary).

Pepperl+Fuchs is building a 3,200sqm production hall at the base, said factory director Jurgen Chrobak. It is expected to be completed by the end of next June, he added.

The company will make plastics and metal parts in the production hall. Chrobak said the parent company had recently acquired a plastics manufacturer in the UK and would move its equipment to Veszprém.

Pepperl+Fuchs will make about 200 new hires to work in the new production hall. At present, 410 people work at the base.

Pepperl+Fuchs’ Hungarian unit expects to close 2011 with revenue of HUF 4bn, up from HUF 3bn in 2010.
