The government has approved financing for the planned public procurement of 48 electric multiple units for MÁV-START, the passenger unit of the Hungarian State Railways MÁV, and Austrian-Hungarian regional railways GySEV and has declared the procurement a priority project. The government resolution published in the official gazette Magyar Közlöny shows that net funding of HUF 75.4 billion has been allocated to the purchase of 42 suburban multiple units for MÁV-START and HUF 10.8 billion for the 6 regional multiple units to be purchased for GYSEV. MÁV-START issued the tender in November. The European Union and Hungary’s government will provide funding for the acquisition of the multiple units. The deadline for submitting applications in the tender was January 3, 2012. The tender calls for the trains to be delivered by September 30, 2015.
