The investigation was launched against the business entities owned by the ministry and their commercial agreements with contracting firms, signed under the previous governments.
The Defense Ministry suffered losses of HUF 1.773 billion between 2005 and 2010, Defense Minister Csaba Hende told reporters. As the internal probe continues, the total is likely to rise, he added.
The ministry sought out legal advice, which shows 45 cases of criminal violations that affect 12 senior executives at ministry-owned companies, Hende said.
The largest damage volume, HUF 596 million was found at HM El Zrt, followed by HM Rekreációs Nonprofit Kft (HUF 540 million), HM Térképészeti Kft (HUF 382 million) and HM Zrínyi Kommunikációs Nonprofit Kft (HUF 250 million).
