At AUMOVIO’s test track in Veszprém, they become repeatable, measurable and safe.
The Veszprém site and its “Balaton R&D” test track are designed to support exactly that purpose: the development and validation of future mobility solutions through the simulation of real traffic situations. The result is a facility where safety, engineering, training and experience come together in a controlled environment.
AUMOVIO was established in 2025 following the spin-off of Continental’s Automotive business. It has quickly become a key technology player in safe, automated and connected mobility. The global company employs nearly 3,600 people at three sites in Hungary.
Within its global network, Veszprém plays a special role. It brings together the full life cycle of driving safety systems in one location, from development and production to testing under real-world conditions. In 2023, the site reached the milestone of producing 1 billion sensors, marking not only a major volume achievement but also a sign of technological maturity and engineering excellence enabled by Industry 4.0-based digitalization.

More Than a Test Track
The Veszprém track is more than a conventional vehicle dynamics testing environment. While the development and validation of driving safety systems are central to its operation, the site also functions as a key element of AUMOVIO’s European testing ecosystem.
The track is used not only for developments at “Balaton R&D”, but also as a priority testing center for AUMOVIO’s international locations. Various vehicle systems and technologies can be tested in real-life conditions, making the site a platform for development, validation and demonstration.
Its flexibility is one of its strongest features. The track is not limited to a single vehicle type or use case. Depending on need, passenger cars, motorcycles, special vehicles and custom vehicles can all appear on the course. This diversity creates value not only from a technology perspective, but also in terms of experience.
The track also supports the development of advanced driver assistance systems. ADAS solutions such as automated parking, driver assistance, and emergency braking can be tested and demonstrated here. This allows future mobility technologies to be shown and assessed in complex, realistic situations rather than in theory.

Service Portfolio
The site also serves as one of AUMOVIO’s driver training centers and can host courses aligned with official, industry-recognized certifications. These qualifications are accepted not only by OEMs but also by other Tier 1 suppliers and test centers, further strengthening the professional standing of the “Balaton R&D” test-track.
One of the track’s greatest strengths is its ability to model critical road traffic situations without putting participants at risk. These are not abstract scenarios. They are everyday situations that can become dangerous in real traffic: sudden emergency braking at high speed a wet road, or an extremely low-grip surface similar to ice.
More complex situations can also be created, such as differing levels of grip on the two sides of the road or rapid directional changes to avoid an obstacle. On the road, such moments can be unpredictable. On the test track, they take place in a highly controlled Tier 1 engineering environment.
The conditions can be set precisely, the scenarios are repeatable, and the results can be measured and analyzed in detail. This type of validation ensures that the systems under development not only function but also respond quickly, reliably and predictably in critical situations. Ultimately, the aim is to create real safety on public roads.
The test track covers about 78,000 sqm of testing surface and consists of several separate modules that together enable complex simulations.
The dynamic platform is where speed and spectacle meet. With a circular track nearly 210 meters in diameter and an environment conducive to high-speed maneuvers, it enables vehicle behavior to be demonstrated in a way that is immediately understandable and visually striking. Rapid lane changes, successive avoidance maneuvers and high-speed stability situations can show a vehicle’s true character within a single lap.
The ceramic platform creates an environment where grip almost disappears. Similar to icy road conditions, the surface makes situations that feel natural on dry asphalt suddenly challenging. This contrast is especially useful for demonstrations and training, as a vehicle’s behavior under low-grip conditions becomes not only measurable but also clearly visible and directly experienced.
Another module features slopes with gradients ranging from 3% to 40%. This models one of the most common but challenging everyday driving situations: starting and stopping on an incline or decline. It is particularly useful for events where the goal is not only demonstration but also confidence-building, as participants can experience the vehicle’s stability and controllability firsthand.
The handling course includes sections equipped with sprinklers and varying curve geometries. Together, they create a versatile environment in which vehicle behavior can be experienced under changing conditions. Wet surfaces and varied cornering conditions help participants understand how vehicles react in a way that is both controlled and realistic.
The track also includes rumble strip and bad-road simulation sections. These surfaces recreate less-than-ideal but common conditions, including uneven pavement, vibration and other factors that influence comfort, stability and the overall driving experience. This makes it possible to show how a vehicle behaves not only in ideal conditions, but also on everyday roads.
Experience in Events
Alongside testing and development, the “Balaton R&D” team also have a distinctive event experience. It can host programs with more than 100 participants, with support services such as an office block, catering options, parking capacity and electric charging infrastructure.
Programs need not take place in a static setting. The various track modules can be integrated into the concept, allowing participants to experience vehicle capabilities directly. If required, the AUMOVIO team can support partners in shaping the event itself. This can include concept development, the design of track tasks and full-scale event organization. As a result, each program can be tailored to the target audience and the event’s message. The location is even suitable for film and video production.
In recent years, it has hosted everything from car meetings and dynamic demonstrations to international professional tests, vehicle premieres and driver training programs, with guests active participants in the experience.
One of the greatest advantages of the Veszprém test track is its location. Veszprém and the test track are only minutes from Lake Balaton, making the site attractive not only from a professional perspective, but also as an event destination.
