Passenger numbers at Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Budapest rose 15.4% year-on-year to 1.33 million in July, operator Budapest Airport told state news agency MTI on Wednesday. Passenger numbers were higher as the FINA World Aquatics Championships in Budapest and Balatonfüred and the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix race were both held in July.
The statistics for commercial accommodation were not distorted by the higher tourist numbers coming to FINA or the Grand Prix, as the figures released by the KSH on Wednesday only cover the period of January-June. These show that the number of guest nights at commercial accommodation in Hungary climbed 12% year-on-year to 2,905,000 in the month of June.
Guest nights spent by Hungarian tourists were up 8.8% to nearly 1.5 million, while guest nights spent by foreign visitors climbed 15.6% to 1,419,000 in June.
Revenues of commercial accommodation facilities increased 22.1% to HUF 44 billion in June, the KSH reveals. International guest turnover grew by 15% and domestic guest turnover by 7.7%, measured in tourism nights and adjusted for calendar effects.
At hotels, revenue per available room jumped 24.1% to HUF 13,185. The average room price was up 12.1% at HUF 20,593.
Room occupancy in hotels increased by 6.2 percentage points to 64% in June 2017 compared to the previous June.
In the January-June period, total guest nights were up 10.6% compared to the corresponding period a year earlier, at 12,181,000. Guest nights spent by Hungarians rose 8.3% to 5,791,000, while guest nights spent by foreign visitors were up 12.7% at 6,390,000 in the first six months of the year.
Room occupancy in hotels in the first half increased by 4.7 percentage points to 55.1%.
Accommodation establishments achieved gross revenues of HUF 196.9 bln in the first six months, i.e. a total of almost 17% more at current prices, KSH data show.
