The number of job seekers at the end of April was up more than 10,000 or 1.7% from the same period a year earlier.
The number of new jobs was up around 20,000 or 45.9% from the same period one year earlier.
More than one-quarter of the registered job seekers ─ 166,400 people ─ had looked for employment for more than a year at the end of April, down 4.6% from the previous month.
According to seasonally adjusted data, the number of registered job-seekers was 594,000 in April, down 3,400 from the previous month.
Ten companies announced plans to lay off 404 employees in April, down 68% from the previous month. This is around 600 down from one year earlier.
The number of new jobs announced in April rose by more than one-third in one month to 64,800 in April. This number was up 45.9% yr/yr.
Around 69.5% of the new jobs were subsidized in some form by the state.
